Similarly, when one talks of “shipping a package”, we tend to think of FedEx or UPS automatically. For example, when one says “mailing a package”, what comes to mind is the US Postal Service. There is a common habit among people and businesses to associate either of these terms with a specific carrier. Anyway, both phrases refer to something being handed over for delivery. In most cases, the sender doesn’t know what they are doing (shipping or mailing), leave alone telling the difference. These are two common phrases that are used interchangeably.
